National Read Across America Day

Rusty here,

I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve been reading all day. That’s because today is Dr. Seuss’s birthday. To celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday, they decided to make it a holiday. So today, March 2nd, is National Read Across America Day! Schools and libraries all over the country are doing it. Today I read all sorts of books and magazines. Copper and Silver came over and when we were all done reading a book, we could just switch. I can’t decide which Dr. Seuss book I read was my favorite. I really liked Green Eggs and Ham, but the Cat in the Hat was just so funny! He is one of my favorite authors. Actually, I don’t think I have a favorite because there are so many good books out there waiting to be read! There’s action, adventure, mystery, fiction, fantasy, biographies, thrillers, Westerns, and so many others! Whichever kind is your favorite, you should pick it up and start reading as soon as you can, because National Read Across America Day won’t last forever. What kind of books do you like? Who is your favorite author? I to hear from everyone soon so I can find some new favorite books!

Until next time, Rusty

Rusty Gets Spring Fever

Rusty here,

Groundhog-DPI absolutely cannot wait for it to be Spring! The weather is getting warmer and the snow is starting to melt, but it still isn’t enough to be able to play outside yet. But it’s okay because this Groundhog’s Day, the groundhog didn’t see his shadow! Since he didn’t see his shadow, that means we’re going to have an early Spring, and that is just what I was hoping for! No more being cooped up inside for my friends and I. It’s sad to see the snowman I made this winter melting away, but at least it means that warmer weather is right around the corner. I’ve also been trying to make a big decision lately, I don’t know whether I should join track or baseball this year. What do you guys think? Maybe I could even do both? Whatever I do pick, it will be a blast! I hope everyone else is looking as forward to spring as I am.

Until next time,

Rusty

National Cookie Month

CookiesRusty here,

OMG!!  Did you know that October is National Cookie Month?  Yep, you read that correctly, it’s National Cookie Month!  Did you know that Americans eat more cookies than in any other country and you will most likely eat more than 35,000 cookies in your lifetime?  Copper, Silver and I love cookies of all flavors!  How many types of cookies can you name?  What is your favorite?  Mine is chocolate chip.  But, I also like oatmeal raisin, peanut butter, sugar cookies, frosted cookies and Girl Scout cookies!  Speaking of Girl Scout cookies, did you know they started back in the 1920’s and it was because girls were baking cookies with their moms and decided to package them in paper bags and sell them door to door!  They sold them for only 25 cents per dozen!  Now they sell them for $4.00 per box!   Oh, I almost forgot about another favorite of mine, Oreo cookies!  They have been around since 1912!  Isn’t that amazing?

I think, we should celebrate this month eating some kind of cookie each day!  Not too many, or we will get a belly ache!  I can’t wait to hear how many new cookies you try!

Until next time,

Rusty

How to keep yourself from being bored.

Rusty here,

It seems like just yesterday I was sitting in my classroom staring wistfully at the beautiful weather outside and counting days till the vacation. Now summer vacations’ here and I’m already bored. Copper, Silver and I hangout every day. Though the initial few days were fun, being away from school and all that, we quickly ran out fun stuff to do. Since we have a couple of months before school reopens, we’ve decided to plan our vacation better.

We have come up with a list of things to do to avoid being bored this month since July is the National Anti-Boredom month. We plan to go fishing, some swimming, make up a new game, try to start our own band, read books and also learn something new like maybe a language.

We might even take a trip to the museum or the zoo and have a picnic. Copper and Silver love exploring and biking, so we will try to explore the city on our bikes. The Minneapolis Institute of Arts usually has some show on for kids and we plan to catch it. We will also visit the Dodge Nature Center and take a guided tour. You all should also plan to do loads of news things this summer so that you don’t get bored.

Until next time,

Rusty.

Rusty’s Last week as a Freshman

Rusty here,

Since this is my last week of freshman year; Copper, Silver and I are all celebrating. Its Memorial Day weekend and it’s a 4 day break. Our plan is to go fishing and if it’s warm enough go swimming. We always hangout on the four-day-weekends. So we can catch up, since we don’t get to see much of each other at school. I can’t wait until summer finally does start. I like school and all, but I would rather it be summer. This school year, I thought went very fast. It seems like yesterday when I had my first day. I was so scared; but it was so easy. Everyone is doing the countdown of how many days are left. There is 4 days and I am free again (for 3 months). Copper, Silver and I can hangout everyday again, like old times. School.

Until next time

Rusty Does Some Spring Cleaning

spring cleaning road sign illustration designRusty here,

Now that it’s spring, all the snow has melted. Since all the snow has melted, there is a big mess to clean up. The ditches need to be cleaned, the lawn needs to be mowed, the fence needs to be fixed, the garage needs to be cleaned, and so many other chores need to be done. Everyone does a little spring cleaning, because all the things they couldn’t do in the winter time, can be done now. First I got all my friends together and we cleaned the ditches by our houses. Boy a lot of garbage accumulates! It took a few days to get all that cleaned up. I think Coppers ditch had to be the worst; we filled five garbage bags full! Next Elmer and I had to fix the lawn mower, the fall before I kind-of set the lawn mower on fire. Long story short, grass got clumped up in the mower and it just started smoking! After we got that fixed, I mowed the lawn. I definitely missed the fresh cut grass smell! Among all the other chores I did around the house mowing the lawn had to be the best one. I love spring and spring means summer is right around the corner!

Until Next Time,

Rusty

Rusty’s Easter and Spring Break

Marshmallow ChicksRusty here,

I don’t know if I was more excited for it to be spring break, or for the Easter bunny to come. I’ve always liked Easter; it’s one of my favorite holidays. I absolutely love jelly beans, last year I ate two whole bags of them! And don’t get me started on peeps, those little, yellow, sugary, marshmallows are just delicious! I had a really great weekend; we got half the week off school. Copper and I played outside most of the time. Boy when spring comes around it sure does get muddy. Linda and Elmer were not pleased one night when I came home soaking and muddy. They made me take all my clothes off outside and use the garden hose to rinse off.  On Easter Sunday all of my family came over and we had a tasty ham. I love holidays because I can eat as much as I want and not get into trouble for it. All of my family was there, even all my cousins. We had a blast playing the Nintendo and complaining that we ate too much. I can’t wait until the next holiday. So I can do it all over again!

Until next time, Rusty

Rusty Joins Baseball

baseball ballRusty here,

I can’t believe it’s already the middle of March. Next thing you know it will be May then back to September again. Time is just flying by, almost as fast as my fast ball. I joined the baseball team a week ago. At first I didn’t know how well I would do, but now that I have the hang of it, I think I do really well. I have never really been in any sports, because of my big feet and wings. Once I got the hang of it though, there was nothing to it. I play 3rd base or I pitch, they are really fun positions. I even got to pick out brand new cleats.  They are bright green and orange. Copper is on the team also, every night after school he comes over. We throw each other pitches and see who can hit the furthest. Our first game is a few weeks away and I’m so excited. I can’t wait to hit an out-of-the-park homerun! Well I hope I do anyways.

Until next time, Rusty

Rusty’s Joke…Gone Wrong

yellow smilie with tongueRusty Here,

I know it’s not April 1st yet, but I just had to play a joke on Copper. I heard of this funny trick, where you put saran-wrap over a door entry, the person that walks into it doesn’t even see it coming. I had it all planned out. Copper was coming over. I had the saran-wrap ready and I was going to put it over my door so he runs into it. A few minutes before he got to my house I quickly put it up. I ran downstairs and I waited for him to come in. The second he got here I would chase him right into my trap. Well it turns out, right as Copper got here; Elmer walked into my room. That was not a good thing! Here he came storming down the stairs. My joke was ruined, and boy was he mad. The next day he sure did get me back though. I came walking through the kitchen and upstairs to my room. When I opened my door, I got a bucket of ice cold water dumped right on my head! I know Linda was not pleased with the mess, but Elmer sure did get me back for my trick. Next time I feel like playing a trick, I should make sure the person intended walks in!

Until next time,

Rusty

Rusty Goes Ice Fishing

Gone Fishing SignRusty here,

Let me first tell you about the Valentine’s Day Dance that was last weekend, before I tell you my fishing story. We had a blast it was so much fun. I even got a kiss on the cheek at the end of the night! It couldn’t have been any better. I can’t wait for next year’s dance. Anyways on to my new story, I went fishing on Ann Lake yesterday. Brrr was it cold outside, but I managed to catch the biggest sunfish I have ever seen! It had to be a foot long and at least a couple pounds (only little exaggeration there). But boy she was a beauty. Living in a small town we don’t really have much to do when its winter time, but I really enjoy ice fishing. It’s so relaxing and it’s fun to just sit out on the lake with friends and talk about girls or whatever. Copper, I, and a few friends went out and we all caught our limit of fish in the first couple of hours, I can’t wait to get home. Tonight we will be eating like kings!

Until next time,

Rusty
